Lenten Soup Supper Serves Up Fellowship and Flavorful Meal

By putting their faith into action, the Daughters of Mary (DOM) ministry organized the event with beautiful grace and effort.
On Friday, March 28, 2025, more than 100 people gathered in the Saint Mary’s Middle School café for a simple dinner where fellowship and an assortment of seven flavorful homemade soups – including one made by High School faculty member Mr. Hart, collided to make the event a resounding success. By putting their faith into action, the Daughters of Mary (DOM) ministry organized the event with beautiful grace and effort. Their impact was profound, providing the opportunity for their guests to enjoy a meal together before attending the Stations of the Cross that evening in the Church of St. Mary.

With attendees ranging in ages, the eclectic group was greeted by the smiles and welcoming spirit of their host members of the all-female youth ministry, an off-shoot of the parish’s Rosary Society, who were proudly dressed alike, donning their group’s t-shirts. The group’s moderator, faculty member, Mrs. Erin Stober, is “pleased to see the bright and faith-filled energy these young ladies share in school and throughout the community. Their work is commended, and I am grateful to be a small part of their extraordinary work.”

With a nominal admission fee of $5 per person and the generosity of several guests, the event was not just a success in terms of attendance, but also in its impact. The event raised over $1,000 for laundry soap, cleaning supplies, and toiletries for the Good Samaritan House (GSH), a significant contribution that will help provide these much-needed necessities to the clients of the parish-run social ministry program. This achievement is a testament to the generosity and compassion of the St. Mary's community.

“I love the success of the night. I love that the girls are rallying around our efforts. Congratulations to all! Thank you for all you do for Good Samaritan House and our under-served population,” said Kathleen Kosciusko, Director of the GSH, echoing the pride and accomplishment that filled the room.

Saoirse McNamara ’22, ’26, a founding member of the group, shared, “The girls and I were so honored to serve the parish community that has had such an impact on each of us as we grow in our faith! Our mission as Rosarians is to promote devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary through reciting the Rosary, foster community and spiritual growth, and provide service to the parish and wider community. We also try to live out our school’s motto: Omnia ad Jesum per Mariam - Everything to Jesus through Mary!”

The Daughters of Mary, a group that has grown and flourished over the past few years, will have 20 young ladies inducted into St. Mary’s Rosary Society in May. This marks a significant milestone as the first youth group of its size to become part of the Society. Their growth, achievements, and dedication to the Blessed Mother, Mary, serve as an inspiration to all. This unique opportunity is open to all young ladies in grades 8-12 with a connection to the St. Mary’s parish or school community.

The Daughters of Mary express their gratitude to Rosarians Mrs. Cathy Morrissey and Mrs. Erin McNamara for being the founders of the DOM ministry and extend heartfelt thanks to parents Mrs. Laura Sciametta, Mrs. Michele Bernic, Mrs. Judy Bardi, Mrs. Carol Moon, Mrs. Sarah Fey, and all moms who assisted with the Supper. In addition, they joyously thank faculty members Mrs. Erin Stoeber, Sr. Agnes Maria, and Sr. Mary Aquinas for their work in forming the Daughters of Mary each day throughout the school year.
