Scholarship in Memory of Alumnus Jonathan Diller ’10 Announced

The Town of Oyster Bay held a press conference on Monday, September 30, 2024, at Mulcahy’s in Wantagh, announcing the launch of the Detective Jonathan Diller Scholarship Fund.
With a host of media outlets present, Town of Oyster Bay Supervisor Joseph Saladino proudly delivered the news of joining forces with local business MGD Investment’s principal, Larry Weinberger, who came to him with the idea of creating an event in memory of the fallen NYPD hero, who was killed in the line of duty in March 2024. From that moment, the event has built up steam, and the community is playing a vital role. The date is Wednesday, November 20, at the storied entertainment venue on Railroad Avenue beginning at 6:30 PM. Stephanie Diller, the widow of Det. Diller bravely stood alongside Supervisor Saladino and other dignitaries to announce the establishment of the scholarship, which will benefit students at Saint Mary’s High School in Manhasset, where the late Detective was a member of the Class of 2010.

Principal Gerard J. Buckley was invited to the podium to speak on behalf of St. Mary’s High School, where he publicly thanked all of the parties involved, especially Mrs. Stephanie Diller, for the generous gift of this named scholarship. This scholarship will not only provide financial support but also inspire future St. Mary’s Gaels who aspire to live a life of service beyond self while achieving academic success.

Supervisor Saladino also shared at the news conference that Mr. Weinberger made the first donation of $5,000 this morning, emphasizing the importance of this initial contribution to kick off the $100,000 goal of the fundraiser scheduled for November 20.

Tickets for the November 20, 2024, fundraiser at Mulcahy’s Pub and Concert Hall are available online and donations to the Detective Jonathan Diller Scholarship Fund can be made here.
