Coach Trimarchi is a legend of St. Mary’s Hockey and an accomplished law enforcement professional with deep roots in Nassau County. For more than three decades, Coach Joe Trimarchi has dedicated himself to protecting communities and developing young athletes.
He began his professional career as a police officer, where he rose to the rank of Detective. His investigative skills led him to the District Attorney's Office, where he joined the Robert Morgantal Office's Organized Crime Rackets Bureau, tackling complex criminal networks. After the September 11th attacks, Coach Trimarchi joined the Counter Terrorism Joint Task Force with the New York State and MTA Police Departments. His accomplishments on the Task Force led to ten years with the US Department of Homeland Security as a Federal Inspector for the Eastern Region specializing in Surface Transportation security. His public service culminated as Deputy Commissioner for Nassau County's Office of Emergency Management, where he helped coordinate critical response efforts.
Parallel to his law enforcement career, Coach Trimarchi built an incredible legacy as a youth hockey coach. Beginning in 1976, he coached youth players at Nassau County Hockey Parks and Recreation, where he would remain active until 2017. He also served as their Assistant Hockey Director. His expertise in player development led to his appointment as District Administrator of the American Development Model Player Development for the New York State Amateur Hockey Association.
Coach Trimarchi was then tapped by USA Hockey as the Player Development National Program camp director. In 2005, he became the Assistant Coach for the USA Hockey Under-18 Select National Team, where he earned recognition as USA Hockey Coach of the Year.
In 1993, Brother Kenneth brought Coach Trimarchi to coach the St. Mary's JV Hockey program. From that point to the present day, he has guided both JV and a second Varsity team, instilling discipline and skill in countless players. The main Varsity team under Henry Lazar's leadership, assisted by Coach Trimarchi and a few other coaches, won 10 straight NYS Titles. St. Mary's second varsity team won numerous county and league titles during 94 -2011. In 2024, Coach Trimarchi expanded the hockey program to include the St. Mary’s Middle School, and led the High School team back to the championships this year.
