Jeanine Buatti '81

With unwavering devotion and deep faith, Ms. Jeanine Buatti has dedicated her life to teaching and nurturing the students of St. Mary's High School. For over three and a half decades, she has lovingly guided young minds, instilling in them not only a passion for knowledge and literature but also a profound connection to their own faith. Every student passing through her classroom has been touched by her remarkable commitment to education grounded in Catholic values and spiritual growth. Over the years, Ms. Buatti has taught English to every grade 9-12 and is currently the chairperson of the English Department. Her excellence in teaching has previously been recognized by her induction into the Teacher’s Hall of Fame.

Catholic School has been an integral part of the person Jeanine has become. Surrounded by the love of her parents and seven siblings, she grew up in Douglaston, Queens, where she attended St. Anastasia's Church and Elementary School. Fascinated when her sisters read "Father Brown" mysteries or "Pride and Prejudice," she developed an early love of reading.

Her years as a student at St. Mary's High School cultivated that love of literature while at the same time encouraging her to explore and deepen her faith. This led her to choose many elective Theology courses at St. John's University, from which she graduated with a B.A. in English and a minor in Theology. She continued her education at St. John's, earning a Master's Degree in English as she began teaching.

She first taught at Archbishop Molloy High School before coming home to St. Mary's in 1989, where she has been teaching for the past thirty-five years. It is her firm conviction that, just as we all need God's love to become more fully human, our students need our love and nurturing to more fully develop their potential.
